David Fulford, elected to the Society 2006
Born in Newcastle, David studied art at Sunderland College of Art and at the University of Newcastle on Tyne before embarking on a teaching career which lasted from 1965 to 2000. He taught in Tyneside, Jamaica and Scarborough and for many years was a senior moderator of A and GCSE Art both in the UK and abroad. He now works full-time as a painter, from his home in Brigsteer. In 1995 he obtained an M.A. in Fine Art from the University of Humberside.

David works mostly in oils, often making very large paintings. He also makes etchings, using a variety of traditional processes, and paints in watercolour and in gouache. He has exhibited regularly over the past 40 years. Exhibitions in the past 10 years include:
  • 1997 'Masters Revisited', at Scarborough Art Gallery
  • 1998 'Beside the Darksome Burn', at Pendle Art Gallery
  • 2002 'Recent Work' - 2 person show at Pendle Art Gallery
  • 2003 'Here and Now' - group show, with Len Tabner, William Tillyer and other N. Yorkshire artists, at Pannett Art Gallery, Whitby
  • 2004 Green Door Studios Exhibition, Grasmere
  • 2005 Red Barn Summer Show, Melkinthorpe
  • 2005 'Eric's Sheds' - 2 person show at Neo Gallery, Cockermouth
  • 2006 Cumbria Open Exhibition, Upfront Gallery, Penrith
  • 2006 Lake Artists Society Summer Exhibition, Grasmere
  • 2006 'Edge' - solo exhibition at Brewery Arts Centre, Kendal.
He was elected to the Lake Artists Society in 2006. His work can be seen on several artist websites, including Axis, Art Connections and Saatchi
