Born in Newcastle, David studied art at Sunderland College of Art and at the University of Newcastle on Tyne before embarking on a teaching career which lasted from 1965 to 2000. He taught in Tyneside, Jamaica and Scarborough and for many years was a senior moderator of A and GCSE Art both in the UK and abroad. He now works full-time as a painter, from his home in Brigsteer. In 1995 he obtained an M.A. in Fine Art from the University of Humberside. David works mostly in oils, often making very large paintings. He also makes etchings, using a variety of traditional processes, and paints in watercolour and in gouache. He has exhibited regularly over the past 40 years.
