Born in Yorkshire in 1953, Phil Hobbs now lives and works in Ambleside. Whilst the Lake District and Britain generally provide the inspiration for much of his work, more recent travels abroad have resulted in paintings from Spain, North Africa and Italy, particularly Venice.
Phil works primarily in watercolour, with the accent on texture and light - life within the landscape is often the keynote of his work. As well as having exhibited at many national exhibitions in major galleries, Phil has had one-man shows or taken part in group exhibitions at leading galleries in the UK, France and the United States. There is a constantly changing exhibition of recent work at the Hobbs Gallery in Ambleside.
