Ralph Wardle, elected to the Society 2007
Ralph Wardle was born at Skellow, Doncaster, South Yorkshire, May 17th 1939.
He commenced art training in 1955 at Doncaster College of Art, followed in 1956 by Special Art Exhibition under Maurice de Sausmerez, Head of Fine Art, University of Leeds. In 1956 he was Sunday Pictorial National Exhibition of Children's Art First Prize Winner, 1956 University of London Slade School, studying etching under Anthony Gross. In 1960 he was awarded London University Diploma in Fine Art, followed by a Robert Ross scholarship from Slade School.
From 1960-1989 he taught Art in secondary schools and Adult Education Classes.
