Graham is a Lakeland painter and sometime illustrator working in the field and from his studio in Barrow. The paintings from studies and observation are inspired by light and atmosphere and not always tied to specific topography.
"Apart from the landscape work I expect I am known for the 'Twilight' paintings inspired by wet streets, northern towns and figures offsetting the light. We were in Coniston recently, a place as familiar as my own back garden. Above the rooflines, Coppermines Valley looked transformed and yet to be discovered. Inspiration in Lakeland is continuous and there for us all to find”.
A related series of work focusses on close woodland studies which follow the emergence of plants through the seasons in the setting of natural textures of rock, bark, mosses and water.
