Joan is a representational painter living and working from her home studio in Blindcrake near Cockermouth.
People are a major focus of her work which includes commissioned portraits, travel paintings, life drawings and un-posed people studies. Though not always possible, Joan’s preference is to paint from direct observation. Her paintings are expressed in oils and/or mixtures of ink and wash.
Joan is a latecomer to a career in art. Summer course at The Slade followed by 2 years of study at Leigh School of Art (Edinburgh). Previous careers include Nursing, Midwifery, Health Visiting, Teaching, Counselling & Therapy.
