Rebecca works with her husband Alan Stones, from their painting and printmaking studios in the village of Blencarn, in the Eden Valley.
“The subject of my work usually springs from personal everyday events: domestic interiors and memorable moments and places. In my studio I am surrounded by many works in progress, with paintings and prints informing each other.
My paintings (oil on canvas or panels) begin as swiftly painted studies that attempt to capture an impression or memory of a place or event.
These studies might then form the starting point for subsequent paintings - the image gradually evolves with layers of colour and texture. Favourite artists include Vuillard, Vallotton, Daumier and Bonnard.
I apply a similar layered approach to my printmaking, using stone lithography; the organic nature of the limestone gives the prints a softness and depth.”
